Luminaires with both types of sensors can be used for security lighting.

Infrared motion sensors – switches that can see

The infrared motion sensor functions as an “eye” that switches the light on as soon as it detects movement from a nearby person. After a certain period of time, the light automatically turns off again.

Day-and-night sensors – light from dusk till dawn

A day-and-night sensor constantly monitors the light intensity. When the light intensity drops below the indicated value, the light automatically turns on. Vice versa, it also turns off when it becomes light enough in the morning.
